Osborne House

This house was built for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1845 - 1851. Prince Albert was the designer of the house and Thomas Cubitt was the builder who was also the architect and builder of Buckingham Palace. The architecture of the building is based on palaces of the Italian Renaisannce. Queen Victoria wanted a house in the country. This was one of their favorite homes to visit. In 1903, part of this home became a junior officer training college for the Royal Navy. The college was later closed in 1921. Following this closure, the building became a museum with a wing set aside for retired officers of the British Armed Services. The musuem has been completely restored and can be seen as it was for Queen Victoria.
